Van Freight Rates – July 25, 2023
DAT.com’s July 20th Trendlines Report shows current national van rate averages are at $2.09 per mile, the same as the June average.
According to DAT, the highest average van rates are in the Midwest at $2.19 per mile. The lowest average van rates are in the Northeast at $1.79 per mile.
DAT reports the current national load-to-truck ratio is 2.60 loads-to-truck, compared to the June average of 2.59. Ratios are highest in the Southwest and west coast states. The lowest ratios are in the Northwest.
Reefer Freight Rates – July 25, 2023
Reefer freight rates are averaging $2.45 per mile, a $.04 decrease from the June average. Reefer rates are highest in the West, averaging $2.59 per mile. The lowest rates are in the Northeast, with an average of $1.99 per mile.
National reefer capacity is at 3.71 loads-to-truck, compared to the June average of 3.83 loads-to-truck.
Current load-to-truck capacity shows reefer demand is highest in the Southeast and Southwest states. The East coast and Rustbelt states have the lowest load-to-truck ratios.
Flatbed Freight Rates – July 25, 2023
National average flatbed rates are currently $2.55 per mile, $.05 lower than the June average.
The Southeast has the highest average flatbed rates at $2.69 per mile; the lowest rates are in the West, with an average of $2.29 per mile.
Nationally, load-to-truck ratios are at 7.92, compared to 9.68 in June. Load ratios are highest in the Southeast and Pacific Northwest. The Midwest has the lowest load-to-truck ratios. For more details, visit Dat.com.

Checking fuel prices, the national average diesel price is $3.81 a gallon compared to $3.82 one month ago and is down $1.63 compared to one year ago.
East Coast diesel prices are averaging $3.88 per gallon. The average price in the Midwest is $3.73 per gallon. California diesel prices are averaging $4.85 per gallon.
