Assemble a simple, car safety kit to prepare for inclemental weather. Basics include blankets, a flashlight with batteries, first aid kit, jumper cables and an ice scraper. Add a few non-perishable snacks for the ride, a pair of gloves and even some bottled water.

3. Plan Stops & Travel Times

Leaving a couple of days before the holidays offers better traffic, and a much safer ride. Plus, if accidents or bad weather strikes, the extra day or two ensures safer travel to your final destination.
