Santa Clarita, California

Santa Clarita is part of the greater Los Angeles area, and it is a hub for the aerospace and defense industries.

Incorporated in 1987, Santa Clarita is in Los Angeles County and part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Santa Clarita lies in the southern part of the state, 22 miles north of Los Angeles. The Pacific Ocean is just 27 miles away. According to the Census Bureau, Santa Clarita has an area of 62.16 square miles.

History

In December 1987, Santa Clarita was incorporated, yet its history goes back a few centuries. About AD 450, the Tataviam arrived, numbering around 2,000 at their zenith. Modern Santa Clarita resulted from the 1987 merger of a few communities: Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus, Valencia, and parts of Castaic. One objective of the merger was to keep tax money local.

The name Santa Clarita comes from the Portola Expedition. The Spaniards arrived on horseback in August 1769 and named the wild waterway they saw after St. Clare (Santa Clara). The stream was later called the “little” Santa Clara; the settlement and the valley later ended up commonly known as “little Santa Clara”.

Santa Clarita history discloses to us gold was found at Sutter’s Mill; however, in reality, Jose Francisco de Gracia Lopez was in charge of the state’s first gold discovery, which took place in Santa Clarita on March 9, 1842 – six years before James Marshall’s gold discovery.

City Within a City

In Santa Clarita, one of the planned communities is Valencia. It was built and designed by the Newhall Development Company from the 1960s through the 1990s. This community contains 55 neighborhoods, each with its own structural style. One of the upsides of pre-planning Valencia are the pedestrian pathways and bikes, known as paseos.

This system gives lovely access to all segments of the city. Paseos are routed under and over the major roadways, for convenience and safety. Santa Clarita is planning an expansion of the paseos in order to reduce traffic congestion.

Economy

Santa Clarita Valley is situated to be the perfect area for families and business. It is a flourishing place for industry, including biomedical, aerospace manufacturing, film production, and high tech opportunities.

With a solid business foundation set at the crossroads of Kern districts, Los Angeles and Ventura, Santa Clarita Valley is one of Southern California’s quickest-developing communities.

The City of Santa Clarita has tried to develop a balanced community that is welcoming to both organizations and inhabitants. Its expert business government gives incentives for projects to entice job-creating companies to come to the district.

Santa Clarita Valley boasts a flourishing economy positioned by real banks, productions, and research experts as one of California’s strongest. The planned build-out of property that is yet to be developed in Newhall Ranch aggregates 8.5 million square feet of available space on 1,000 acres of land and will create roughly 20,000 new job openings.

Quality of Life

Santa Clarita Valley is a community where individuals think about and support the community, companies succeed and travelers appreciate an array of recreational activities.

Santa Clarita is likewise home to institutions of higher learning and school districts that have won many awards, including Masters College, California Institute of the Arts, College of the Canyons and the satellite campus of Cal State University.

Santa Clarita is principally a residential community. While most opportunities for work are not far away, the border area is where the biggest employers are: Six Flags Magic Mountain, The William S. Hart Unified School District, and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Santa Clarita Valley is reliably praised as being among the country’s safest communities, making it an extraordinary work environment, an area to raise a family and place to appreciate the best of California.

Festivals

In the spring, the City of Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival commemorates the history of the west and way of life, and also includes cowboy poetry. Later in the year, the Hart of the West Pow Wow celebrates culture and history from the Native American Indian perspective. The city gives free concerts in its parks during the summer. In the winter you can appreciate a Lighted Boat Parade at Castaic Lagoon, while the fall brings the International Family Film Festival.

Arts and Leisure

The City of Santa Clarita historical, cultural and leisure attractions include several venues. The Sand Canyon Equestrian Trail is accessible in the Canyon Country area of the city, while Valencia Heritage Park gives hikers a trailhead.

The Tesoro Adobe was designed, constructed and owned by noted western film performing artist, Harry Carey, in the 1920s and 1930s. Carey’s was credited with no less than 233 movies. Big names to visit the Adobe include Gary Cooper, John Wayne, and William S. Hart. The County of Los Angeles acknowledged the gift of the Tesoro Adobe Historic Park from Montalvo Properties LLC in June 2005. Montalvo Properties LLC is the developer of the Tesoro community that encompasses the recreation center, which features a bunkhouse, historic museum, the western ranch, and an outdoor amphitheater.
