Orlando

factoring companies in Orlando provide cash flow for businesses Orlando, Florida is one of the most beautiful cities you will ever live or visit. In fact, its first nickname was “The City Beautiful” inspired by the Lake Eola. These days the city is known as “The Theme Park Capital of the World,” thanks to Walt Disney and his innovative theme park, the world-famous Disney World. Orlando has a total population of approximately 2.4 million.

Orlando’s rise to progression all started from its booming citrus industry from the 19th century. Eventually, Orlando would transcend into tourism in the 20th century, growing to have more theme parks than anywhere in the world. Orlando also has grown to be a powerhouse in the high-tech industry. From all over the world, it’s widely known for its historic strides in the realm of software design, digital media, agricultural technology, aviation, and the aerospace industry. The job market is stupendous, considering that this metropolis has a technology industry of over $13.4 billion that houses facilities of over 150 international companies that represent over 20 countries. Orlando’s technology industry employs well over 50,000 people.

Theme parks aren’t the only parks that make the world of Orlando go round. It turns out the Central Florida Research Park is the seventh largest park in the country. Central Florida Research Park is also the home of the United States military simulation and training programs. The park holds the world’s largest modeling and simulation conference – the Inter-service/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) – for the U.S. Navy, Army, Coast Guard, Air Force, and Marines.

Orlando History

The native Seminole tribe originally inhabited Orlando. Despite the ruins of Fort Gatlin along the shores of today’s Lake Gatlin, there are very few archaeological sites where the tribe resided. In 1536, the European settlers would arrive and change the course of history.

The Seminole Wars (also known as the Florida Wars) were the longest and most expensive wars between the natives and settlers in U.S. history. The first conflict took place after the War of 1812 when the Spanish Crown ceded the territory of Florida to the United States. The Seminoles were forced out of their homes in northern Florida and were confined to a large reservation in the Florida peninsula.

The modern history of Orlando starts as a result of the Second Seminole War in 1835. The United States was trying to force the natives to leave Florida completely with the Treaty of Payne’s Landing of 1832. Since the Seminole natives were outgunned and outnumbered, they resorted to guerrilla warfare, resulting in attacking and killing innocent civilians. During the war, the U.S. Army built Fort Gatlin to protect the settlers against the natives.

There was a third Seminole War in 1855 through 1868. It resulted in most of the remaining Seminoles being shipped to Oklahoma peacefully, while a handful of natives retreated to the Florida Everglades.

In 1840, a family of early settlers known as the Jernigan family developed a small settlement around Fort Gatlin. This settlement would grow throughout the 40s and into the 50s. In 1850, the Jernigans built a post office and the community had started to expand northward. By 1856 the community became even more established, and they changed their name to Orlando.

Orlando Florida Culture & Recreational Activities

Orlando has more theme parks and attractions than anywhere else in the world. The city features seven out of the 10 of the most-visited theme parks in North America. And out of those seven, five are among the top 10 theme parks in the world.

Walt Disney World Resort: This is Orlando’s largest attraction. It was created by the legend Walt Disney himself, although he died before the construction began. Walt Disney World Resort has many attractions within, including the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, and more.

The Eola House: The Eola House was built in 1924 by George Marsh. The house was built with Mediterranean design and is the newest feature of Lake Eola Park. The two-story house allows you to experience Orlando’s history and culture through an extravagant tour.

Universal Orlando Resort: This is the second largest resort after Walt Disney World. Universal Orlando is made up of two theme parks: Universal Studios Florida and Island of Adventure. The resort has a city walk full of night-time entertainment as well as five luxury hotels to spend the night in.

Japanese Rock Garden: The Japanese Rock Garden revolves around a large piece of black marble that was given to the city of Orlando by Tainan, Taiwan. The marble weighs 12.5 tons and is approximately 19 feet long. Legend says the marble was sculpted by the Japanese winds over a span of 10,000 years and discovered in the mountains at an altitude of 1,600 meters. This gift was offered by the Mayor of Tainan at the time, Su Nan-Cheng, as a token of sister city affiliation and eternal friendship. Today, it is one of Orlando’s greatest attractions.

Gatorland: Gatorland is considered the “Alligator Capital of the World.” This wildlife preserve and theme park contains thousands of alligators and crocodiles. Owen Godwin created the theme park in 1949, and it was meant to save crocodiles and alligators from trappers who wanted to kill them for their meat and skin. Gatorland features a petting zoo, educational programs, and a swamp walk.

The Confederate Monument: The United Daughters of the Confederacy gave this monument as a gift to the city of Orlando in 1911. This monument was eventually moved to Lake Eola in 1917 and remains there to this day.

If you’re looking for the perfect vacation spot, why not try your luck at the Theme Park Capital of the World? Orlando, Florida is full of surprises with a recreational activity for just about anything you can think of.
