Atlanta

Atlanta invoice factoring companiesAtlanta is one of the major cultural and economic hubs of the South, with an estimated population of 463,878 and a metropolitan area that is home to a staggering 5.5 million people. With a population that large, Atlanta is the ninth largest metropolitan area in the United States. Atlanta is considered an “alpha” or “world city” because its activities and economy have a significant impact on the finance, commerce, media, entertainment, and art of the entire world. For those visiting Atlanta, there is no shortage of things to do. Atlanta is home to all sorts of tourist attractions, professional sports teams, museums, parks, and of course, great restaurants and nightlife.

History

Atlanta got its start in 1836 when the state of Georgia decided to build a rail line out to the rapidly growing Midwest. A location was chosen for the terminus of the railroad, and that spot became the eventual site of modern-day Atlanta. A small town sprung up around the rail station in 1839, including a general store and a few homes, but Atlanta really didn’t start to take off until 1854, by which point four separate rail lines had connected to the fledgling city. With so many routes in an out, it wasn’t long before Atlanta became the rail hub for the entire southern United States. After the Civil War, the population exploded and the city continued to grow faster than almost every other American city. The city’s famous elite black colleges were formed between 1865 and 1885, and despite discrimination and Jim Crow laws, Atlanta enjoyed a fairly prosperous African-American middle and upper-class. Martin Luther King was from Atlanta, and in many ways, the civil rights movement began on its streets. Fast forward to 1996 when Atlanta enjoyed its latest expansion of infrastructure when it hosted the Summer Olympics. New facilities were built, new business cropped up, and along the way, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport became the world’s busiest airport.

Tourism

That airport contributes to Atlanta hosting over 42 million visitors each and every year. Visitors come from all over the globe to experience all of the wonderful and exciting things the city has to offer. Atlanta was the birthplace of Coca-Cola, today a global soft drink empire. Today, guests can visit the World of Coca-Cola, a museum that celebrates the history of the iconic beverage, see its philanthropic and relief efforts, and sample various Coke products from around the globe. Many people don’t realize that Coca-Cola has an incredible amount of brands that may never make it to shelves in America, but are enjoyed by people in other countries every day. Particularly curious guests should try a taste of Beverly, a “bitter aperitif” that is popular with Italian and other European palates, but Americans have a tendency to find off-putting, to say the least. The crown jewel of the museum is a vault containing the secret formula for Coke. The secrecy surrounding this recipe has spawned several myths and legends, many of which have more than a little bit of truth to them. One incredible but true fact is that the formula was split into two halves, neither of which were ever kept in the same place at the same time, and for decades no one person knew the entire recipe for the flagship beverage.

Within walking distance from the World of Coca-Cola is the Georgia Aquarium. This aquarium is the largest in the western hemisphere, with over 100,000 different animals representing over 500 different species living in a grand total of 10 million gallons of salt and fresh water. It was the largest aquarium in the world from its opening in 2005 up until recently when it was surpassed by the Marine Life Park in Singapore. Notably, the Georgia Aquarium is the only aquarium in the United States where guests can see whale sharks in captivity. Whale sharks are the largest species of shark which can grow up to 41 feet and have been reported to weigh over 66,000 pounds. The Georgia Aquarium also hosts a Beluga Interactions exhibit, where guests can get into the pool and experience the friendly sea creatures for themselves.

Sports

Sports fans aren’t left out in Atlanta either, as the city has three major league professional sports teams to go and watch, meaning you can usually catch a game no matter what time of the year it is. The Atlanta Falcons are the NFL squad, and currently play their games in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity for 83,000 fans. What’s good for the Falcons is good for Atlanta, as the new stadium is set to be the site for Super Bowl LIII, a guaranteed boom for the city’s economy. The Atlanta Hawks are the NBA team, also playing right in downtown. The Braves, the city’s baseball team, is the most popular and well known, in large part because it has enjoyed the most success. Starting in the 70s their games were broadcast on TBS, giving them a national audience not afforded to many teams at the time. Then, from 1991 to 2005 they won an unprecedented 14 consecutive division titles, solidifying their place as one of the top baseball franchises.

Economy

The economy of Atlanta has been growing steadily for some time and continues to do so. It ranks fourth in the United States in the number of Fortune 500 companies headquartered there, being home to The Coca-Cola Company, Home Depot, United Parcel Service, Delta Airlines, AT&T Mobility, and Newell Rubbermaid. While these are the largest, they are only a small representation of how many major companies have a presence in the Atlanta area. In fact, over 75 percent of the Fortune 1000 companies have an office in Atlanta. It is also a major contributor to the tech industry. Atlanta is ranked as the 10th largest cybercity in the nation, with 126,700 high-tech jobs.Atlanta invoice factoring companies

Trade, transport, and utilities are the largest employers in the state, which is unsurprising given the presence of the busiest airport in the world and the headquarters of both UPS and Delta. However, since Atlanta is also the capital of Georgia, there are also several state and city government jobs that are created here.

Television & Cinema

Atlanta is also quickly becoming a popular destination for the movie and TV industries. Georgia offers significant tax breaks and special rates to production companies, bringing in more and more film crews every year. Today, it is a regular shooting site for The Walking Dead, Marvel Studios, DreamWorks, and a multitude of other major movie studios. A recent study put it as the third largest film largest film industry location in the world, and also the fastest growing. If this trend continues, it is likely that Atlanta will eventually become the single most popular place to film in the world. This, along with several other growing financial sectors shows that the future is bright for the city, as job growth is projected to increase by 35 percent over the next ten years.

Premier Travel Destination

Atlanta has always been a premier travel destination since its inception. From the old days when trains rolled in from around the country to today when planes stream into the airport on a constant basis. The city has survived hardship, being the only American city destroyed as an act of war, but bounced back to become the thriving metropolis that it is today. It’s for this reason Atlanta adopted the phoenix as its symbol. So if you are planning a trip to the south either for business or pleasure, be sure to visit this incredible city and take in all of the great sites and experiences it has to offer.
