Missouri

Missouri, also known as the “Show Me State,” is a Midwestern U.S. state located on the eastern fringes of the Great Plains. Most of Missouri is covered by grassy plains and fertile prairie lands dissected by rivers and streams. History

The state is named for the Missouri River, which was named after the indigenous Missouri, a Siouan-language tribe. Fort Davidson is located in Missouri and was the scene of the Battle of Pilot Knob during the Civil War. More than 1,000 men were killed or wounded as a result. The Battle of Lexington also took place in Missouri where Missouri Guard troops defeated Union troops.
