Fayetteville, North Carolina

factoring companies in FayettevilleFayetteville is the administrative center of Cumberland County in the state of North Carolina. The city has one of the main military installations in the country, namely, the Fort Bragg. With a span of 147.7 square miles, it is home to 204,408 people based on 2013 population estimation. The city started as a settlement in 1762 and today has become the fifth largest metropolitan area in the state and the largest in southeastern North Carolina.

History

Historically, the area known today as Fayetteville was initially settled by the Siouan Native American tribes. English settlement started around the second decade of the eighteenth century. However, the history of Fayetteville as a city is linked to two settlements, namely: Cross Creek and Campbelltown, set up around Cape Fear River within the colony. Though these two settlements were established at different times, they were integrated to form Fayetteville in 1783. During the American Revolution, a Frenchman named Marquis de Lafayette gave tremendous support to the Americans, and thus when this town was established, it was named Fayetteville in his honor.

Before the consolidation of Cross Creek and Campbelltown, Fayetteville was a politically important location in the state of North Carolina. Though the move made in 1788 to make it the capital of the state did not materialize, the University of North Carolina was chartered in the city by the General Assembly in 1789. It was also in this city that the Constitution of North Carolina was ratified. It hosted the legislature for a number of years before the move to Raleigh in 1794. The city became economically prosperous during the nineteenth century, becoming the regional center of imports and exports of goods and services, as well as ideas. It has an inland port that was home to newspaper houses, bookstores, churches, legal chambers and a courthouse. Despite the damages wrought by a fire outbreak in 1832, the resilient locals were able to forge head.

Today, the city is home to world-class infrastructures, plenty of amenities and industries of different kinds. The city has pioneered a number of things in the United States. It hosts the largest military camp in the country, Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base, which contribute immensely to local economy and in the ever-growing population of the city. The city has more than a hundred subdivisions, including Vanstory Hills, Tallywood and King’s Grant. It has plenty of shopping facilities and retail establishments, such as the massive indoor Cross Creek Mall, which opened in 1976. Economic progress of the city has also resulted in population growth and expansion of the boundaries of the city.

Economy

Fayetteville is the economic hub of the county. Though there are a lot of industries contributing to the local economy, Fort Bragg remains the economic pillar of the city, such that many believe that without it, Fayetteville would not have achieved the popularity it has today. The city has strong retail industry, which is ranked among the best in the country. It is home to popular restaurants and shops. Healthcare, entertainment and hotel and accommodation industries also make significant contribution to local economy. Due to diversified economy of the city and the presence of many industries, it has a low unemployment rate. Top employers in the city according to the 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report are the City of Fayetteville, Cumberland County, Good Year Tire Manufacturing and Plant, Wal-Mart, Cape Fear Valley Health System, Cumberland County Public School System and Fort Bragg (Department of Defense).

The Festival Park Complex hosts many of these events.

Museums

The museum provides visitors the opportunity to learn about the participation of the division in various military campaigns starting from World War I through today. Visitors will also learn about military prowess of historic soldiers. The evolution of U.S. paratroopers, starting from 1940 through the Persian Gulf War, are exhibited in this museum.
