McKinney City, Texas

History

The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed in 1836. Collin McKinney played a major role in drafting and signing the declaration, which lead to Collin County, where McKinney is located, being named after him. The region was fertile, and settlers were welcomed by colonialists to come and establish farms and communities. Cotton, oats, wheat and corn were produced in bulk.

McKinney is a far northern suburb of Dallas, a business hub in Texas.

Vigorous agricultural activities and a growing population resulted in development of an urban center, which has grown into the city of McKinney today. Service industries such as health facilities, banks, a fire department and manufacturing and processing industries arose due to the flourishing agricultural economy. The town acquired electricity in 1889, and this was a huge rejuvenation that sparked exponential growth. In 2012, Money Magazine chose the town as the best place to live in the United States.
